Griffith Peak
Today my journey to Mount Everest began. I hiked Griffith Peak with my friends Patti Edgel, Jayden Edgel, and Travis Herdt. Griffith Peak is the second highest peak in Las Vegas, NV. The top is 11,090 ft. It took me 4 hours to get to the top, and 2 1/2 hours to get back down.
It was hard. I wanted to turn back and head down the mountain, but Patti told me that I would be so happy when I got to the top, and she told me how beautiful it was, so I wanted to see. When we got to the top, there was a book that you sign, and this is what I wrote: "Zane Smith. I am 7 years old. I made it, and I am very proud of myself, and I am proud of you too."
The toughest part was when we peaked the mountain, and the best part is when we got to the top. I need better shoes to hike in. My feet were hurting a little bit, and my mom forgot to tighten my pants, so they were a little big.
I want to hike Mount Charleston soon.

Zane this is awesome! My name is Derek Stutz, I am stationed in Germany with the US Army. You are amazing for having such a goal. Growing up, all I dreamed about was someday climbing Mt. Everest, what an amazing feeling it would be. I recently just returned from Afghanistan and had a chance to fly over the Himilayas. It was an amazing sight to see. I know without a doubt that you can do anything you set your mind to. Never let anyone tell you that you can't. Those days that it seems hard and an immpossible goal, push yourself harder. It will be a difficult road to get to the top, but what a feeling knowing what you accomplished when everyone else you know is sitting at home playing video games. I wish you luck, and will follow you all the way. My email is derekstutz@hotmail.com, would love to hear from you! Good Luck!!

Zaney boy!! I'm so proud of you. I know that it was hard and you did it anyway. You are such a smart, determined kid and I know you are off to do great things. Isn't it nice to see that the first one to write on you blog is someone that you have never met. He is Mom's cousin and is a brave soldier. He has run many races and accomplished some great things. How great that he is excited to hear about your adventures. I love you and I am so proud of ALL of the things you do.
